Boston ES Principal Jessica Currie
Why did you choose to become a Principal?
The heartbeat of my career in education has always been teaching. During my career, I have had the opportunity to teach students as a classroom teacher, coach teachers as an instructional lead strategist, and lead teachers as an assistant principal and now principal. In each role, my primary focus has been serving others through teaching and learning. I chose to become a principal because I wanted to have a positive impact on the lives of students and support teachers and students in their growth. Building relationships with teachers, students, families, and community members is something I am passionate about because it creates a supportive learning environment that benefits all stakeholders. I truly enjoy mentoring teachers as they support the academic and emotional growth of their students.
What inspires you in your work as a principal?
Making a lasting impact and helping children reach their full potential is my North Star. I am inspired by the teachers and staff that I am fortunate to work alongside each day. These professionals work tirelessly to create meaningful and engaging learning opportunities for their students’ day in and day out. For me, it is incredibly rewarding to collaborate with them as we work to build a safe, positive school culture. It is inspiring to watch them implement strategies that engage their students and spark their curiosity as they learn new concepts and skills. Seeing students and teachers have an “aha” moment as they learn and grow together is rewarding and inspiring. It is my goal to ensure that students, staff, and families feel supported, valued, and empowered to achieve their goals.
How are you Elevating the Excellence in your school?
We are Elevating the Excellence in many ways at Boston Elementary this year. We are fostering a positive school culture by working to ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment so that our students feel valued and engaged. As an instructional leader, I am collaborating with teachers daily as they analyze student academic data and utilize the data to inform instructional decisions. Our goal is that students receive rigorous and targeted instruction that maximizes their learning potential in all academic subjects. This year, we are continuing to partner with families and the Boston community to enhance long-standing Boston traditions, while also creating opportunities for engagement with new community traditions.
