Eileen Gilbert of Boston Elementary School

A 12-year educator, Eileen Gilbert is a fourth- and fifth-grade Early Intervention Program teacher at Boston Elementary School. She began her career at Clayton ES as a second-grade teacher after completing her student teaching at Clark Creek ES STEM Academy. At Boston, Ms. Gilbert taught second, third, and fifth grades before taking on her current role.

What inspired you to become a teacher?
I was inspired to become a teacher because of a teacher I had in high school who helped me understand math and made me feel less intimidated by my struggles. After years of struggling and feeling defeated, he helped me feel successful. I want to be that person for someone.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?
I find building relationships with students, families, and teachers to be the most rewarding part of my job. When families trust you with the education of their child, it is a very special honor for me. I love getting to know students and understanding how their brains work, and how I can tap into that to help them succeed.

How do you elevate the excellence in your classroom?
As an EIP teacher, I elevate the excellence by providing support to students, teachers, and families within our school community. That can look very different in each classroom I support, but making sure my actions help others feel successful is vital to me.
