First-grade teacher

What’s the most innovative idea that you’ve tried in your classroom?
The most innovative idea I have tried in the classroom is allowing my students to have flexible seating options for independent reading. When students are comfortable and have choice in their learning, it increases engagement!
Who is the best teacher you ever had and what made him or her special?
My fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Cone.  She made me feel like I was the only one in the classroom.  Mrs. Cone listened to me and made me feel seen.
What can parents do to prepare their children for learning?
It is important for parents to have conversations with their child and give their child experiences, such as playing outside and exploring the world around them.  Building up a child’s oral language development, vocabulary and real-world experiences will help accelerate them in the classroom.
What are the obstacles to getting all kids to achieve?
Ability to concentrate, social/emotional development and various socioeconomic backgrounds could be obstacles children face in school.  These factors could affect achievement in the classroom.
