Celebrating National Principals Month: Dr. Celeice Hood of Boston ES!

October is National Principals Month! Our Principals are amazing instructional leaders dedicated to ensuring our students learn more, grow more, and achieve more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else!  We’re recognizing these inspiring leaders with special posts throughout the month. Please join us in thanking them for all they do to support our mission of being the highest performing school district in Georgia.

Boston Elementary School Principal Dr. Celeice Hood

Why did you want to become a teacher?
I became a teacher because I wanted my life to have a positive impact on others.  I had always enjoyed school and learning, and I gained so much fulfilment in working with children through programs such Big Brother, Big Sister and tutoring through the YMCA's afterschool program.  So, I knew my path to having impact was in becoming an educator.

Who was the most influential teacher in your life?
Dr. Susan Buice was my 12th grade AP Literature teacher.  The care and concern that she demonstrated for each of her students and the way in which she invested in our futures made me want to pay that forward.

What’s a favorite memory from your first year as a teacher?
We had two small frogs as class pets.  We had a creative writing contest for students to name the frogs and students loved helping take care of them.

How did teaching prepare you to be a Principal?
As a Principal, it is so important to stay connected to the classroom in order to be an instructional leader.  My time in the classroom taught me the importance of having a plan in place but being flexible to meet students learning needs and the power of relationship building to cultivate a positive classroom climate.
